Miss Cathy Tkachuk
National Board Certified Teacher
Early and Middle Childhood Art Education
About Miss TkachukI first became interested in art in sixth grade when my teacher saw something she liked in my drawings and began to encourage me. Of course that soon meant I was 'given the opportunity' to design all her bulletin boards for the year! I actually enjoyed it very much, and also learned many practical skills.
In high school I became more focused on my art studies and, for the first time, discovered a visual means for expressing my feelings and ideas. With the full support of my parents, I was fortunate to pursue my passion as a Studio Art Major and Psychology Minor in college. Drawing continues to be my favorite medium, although I currently am developing my skills in photography and painting. Before coming to District 67, I received my Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University. In June 2005 I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early/Middle Childhood Art, and most recently I completed my Certificate of Art Therapy at Northwestern University. I have always enjoyed learning; the world of art is one of my most influential teachers! Throughout my career, I have held a variety of teaching positions, including elementary classroom, middle school language arts, math/language arts for gifted learners, music in the private school system, and of course, art. The 2012-13 academic year begins my 23rd year as a teacher with District 67--the last 13 teaching art. I find working with children and art to be incredibly inspiring and rewarding. The experiences are ever-changing, and always teach me more! In addition to my family, an incredible circle of friends, and being a teacher, other sources of joy for me include singing, piano, guitar, gardening, and journaling. And of course, I am always seeking time to work on my art, remaining most inspired by the wonder and magnificence of nature. |
