First Grade Artists are encouraged to express imagination while focusing primarily on developing the art elements of Line, Shape, and Color; however the remaining elements of Space, Texture, and Form are also introduced throughout the year. Students are challenged to give attention to the full Space of the composition. Primary and secondary colors are introduced, along with warm, cool, and color tints. Artists work with a variety of tools and 2-D medium including tempera, watercolor, oil and chalk pastel; 3-D pieces are also constructed in clay, as well as a variety of papers and fun texture materials. Craftsmanship skills of cutting and gluing are also further developed.
